It’s Black Friday tomorrow. It’s a day that divides people.
Some people love it. They see it as a great opportunity to bag a bargain.
Other’s see it’s pure commercialism, as most of the time you’re buying things you don’t need and don’t really want.
So, if something is reduced from £1,000 to £750 and it’s not something you were planning on buying, you haven’t saved £250 - you’ve spent £750.
And others again see it as a day for big retailers, like Amazon to make lots of money. As small, independent retailers can’t compete with them.

Money can absolutely enhance your life.
It can buy experiences, provide security and create opportunities.
It can make life easier, more comfortable and more enjoyable.
But there’s a flip side.
And that’s when the pursuit of money sacrifices the very quality of life that you’re trying to improve.
This can manifest as:
- working endless hours and missing out on time with loved ones.
- saying no to rest, hobbies or travel because you’re too busy hustling.
- chasing a bigger paycheck, but feeling burned out and disconnected.
It’s a paradox that we don’t talk about enough.
Money can buy freedom, security and joy - but only if we’re intentional about how we make it and spend it.
So, it’s about finding balance - and the right balance for you.
📍Making money in a way that aligns with your values.
📍Spending money on things that truly matter to you.
📍Making space for the things money can’t buy, like time, health and relationships.
How do you balance money and your quality of life?

Many people believe that cohabiting couples have the same rights as married or civil partnership couples.
But this is NOT true, at least not in England and Wales.
The ‘common law’ spouse/partner does not currently exist here.
📍An ex-cohabitee living in the home of their partner (and in their sole name) does not have a right to stay put in it nor to a share of it upon sale.
📍If one cohabitee dies during the relationship and has not made a will, the survivor does not have an automatic right to their assets.
📍A cohabitee is not entitled to the same inheritance tax benefits as a surviving spouse or civil partner.
Changes to the cohabitation law are expected in England and Wales.
This could result in the same rights being given to cohabitees as those currently available to spouses and civil partners, after say three years.
This already exists in other countries e.g., New Zealand and Australia.
Do you think cohabitees should have the same rights as spouses and civil partners?

If you think that people don’t have money and are not buying, then you need to hear this.
2.5 million people registered for around 200,000 Glastonbury Festival 2024 tickets at £360 each.
And the tickets sold out in around 30 mins.
This highlights a few interesting things:
1) that there are people who do have money to spend.
2) that creating a waiting list prior to selling can be a good business strategy.
3) that the organisers could have charged a higher price for the tickets given the demand, but didn’t as they don’t want the festival to become elitist.
I’m one of the people that tried to get a ticket for the full festival and failed.
Though I did manage to get a locals Sunday ticket. With hindsight, one day will probably be enough for me, lol.
The festival starts today. Who else is going?
