Yesterday, a ticket holder won £201 million - one of the biggest EuroMillions jackpots ever.
I did buy a ticket, but I wasn’t the winner. I do sometimes buy lottery tickets but don’t buy them regularly.
But it did make me think about what I’d do if I’d won.
I’d like to stay anonymous rather than go public. But whilst that would be manageable with a smaller win, it would be difficult with a big win.
I think people would notice such a big increase in my disposable spending, lol.
Though I definitely wouldn’t spend it frivolously. I’d invest a lot of it, give some away and start a charitable Foundation.
Though there’d definitely be new house, new car and some more holidays.
And I’d keep doing what I’m doing as I love what I do.

I grew up with really frugal parents. And it had both a positive and negative effect on my life.
Positive because I learnt resourcefulness and financial responsibility.
Negative because I experienced (perceived) deprivation. And my desire to not experience that again landed me in debt.
It took me a while to find a way to manage my money that works for me. That allows me to be frugal with things that aren’t so important to me. And spend extravagantly on those things that are.

Money is still a very popular gift for Christmas.
Collectively, Brits are expected to receive more than £500 million in money this Christmas.
Money is a quick and easy gift and usually appreciated.
And may be appreciated even more during these difficult economic times.
Giving money removes the stress of hunting for presents that may prove unsuitable or unwanted. It comes with "no strings".
And can be used by the recipient to buy something they really need or really want.
And money can be an easy and convenient gift when it’s getting closer to Christmas, and you haven’t found the right present yet.
But money can also be seen as an unimaginative or an impersonal gift, that has required no effort on the part of the giver.
Some recipients may be embarrassed to receive it. And vouchers and gift cards can get mislaid and forgotten.
